There are many mathematical, Physical and natural wonders in this world that humanity hasn’t been able to figure out yet. There are numerous others that we have figured out and also, those that never fail to amaze us. One of which is the Fibonacci Series of numbers.

## WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS ?

As you might have assumed by it’s name, its a series of numbers following a strict pattern. These numbers extend infinitely. The fibonacci series goes like this :

### 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89……

So, if you want to know how you can calculate them(boring part), keep reading. Or, you can skip to the paragraph where I explain why this series is important..

## What is the pattern they follow ?

So, here is how to make Fibonacci series numbers one after the other.

### 0 + 1 = 1 ——— 1st fibonacci number.

• Now, add the no. you got as the sum of 0 and 1, to the number just before the equals sign and repeat the process..

### 0 + 1 = 1 1 + 1 = 2 1 + 2 = 3 2 + 3 = 5 3 + 5 = 8 .      .     . .      .     .

There is also a simple mathematical algorithm for this :

### xn = xn–1 + xn–2

where,
X is a fibonacci number.
n is a +ve integer.

There is also a formula to calculate a fibonacci number independently but, that a whole another topic for a different article(let me know if you want that article)([email protected]).

## Why is this so important ?

The image above is a representation of “The Fibonacci Spiral”. The spiral is made by taking fibonacci numbers as radii and forming and joining arcs of circles.

This spiral is believed to be very pleasant to the human eye. That is the reason, many photographers from around the world use it to take amazing shots like these :

Its is even used in “The Mona Lisa”.

Many companies create their logos by using the fibonacci spiral.

So, in this way many great architects, musicians, photographers, cinematographers artists etc used the fibonacci series in their work.

Painters like Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh and many others have seemed to have consciously or unconsciously used in their masterpieces.

## FIBONACCI :

Fibonacci is an italian mathematician who discovered this series of numbers. This man is considered to be “the most talented Western mathematician of the Middle Ages”.

He was from the “republic of Pisa”. Fibonacci lived from
c. 1175 till c. 1240-50. (most likely)
He is also known for popularizing Indian Mathematics in the western world.

He is also known as Leonardo BonacciLeonardo of PisaLeonardo Pisano Bigollo, or Leonardo Fibonacci.

Indeed, a very great man!

The fibonacci no. spiral is also called as the “Golden Ratio”.

After researching about mathematical wonders like this, we can say that mathematics is the ultimate language of nature which human can interpret. Mathematics is indeed a very fascinating field. I am so thankful to be able to experience the elegance of mathematics!
